The Red House

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
This quintessentially Maine summer house is lovingly maintained and furnished with antiques, while also offering the comforts required today.

For many years part of an artists' colony at Bartlett's Harbor, this house was named "The Red House" (though now gray-shingled). It is one of three houses on the west side of Bartlett's Harbor, which is perfect for rowing and exploring. Children love to search for mussels, starfish, shells, seaglass, driftwood.

Sit outside on the comfortable porch and new deck for eating and entertaining, open a book or sketchpad, and even catch up on your laptop correspondence and Internet through WiFi. In the kitchen, the spacious countertops and equipment allow for food preparation while looking at the view.

The large Livingroom windows face the water and let in plenty of light. The seating area has two cozy Pottery Barn loveseats and a braided rug by the wood-burning fireplace. We keep the wood-shed behind the house filled with firewood and kindling.

The antique oak dining table (with leaves) can seat eight. Table linens are provided. There is a small TV area with Direct TV, and an extraordinary antique pull-stop pump-pedal organ (brought over from the mainland by Great-Grandmother Allen to the excitement of everyone in the community).

The downstairs bathroom has a tub/shower. Doors open (or shut) to the TV area and the downstairs bedroom.

The downstairs bedroom enjoys an ocean view and has two twin beds. Up the steep stairway are four bedrooms and a bathroom with shower. The two front bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with a new queen bed, have spectacular views. A third bedroom, which has a double bed, faces the meadow & boathouse. The fourth bedroom has a twin bed and its own outside stairway (your child will love it).
